The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track position in sociocultural anthropology at the assistant professor level, beginning on 1 September 2020. The department seeks a candidate whose work complements the existing strengths of the department and who can make contributions to our undergraduate major in anthropology, our concentration in Global Health and Migration, and our Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies degree. We encourage applications from individuals with expertise in health, migration, the theoretical framing of borders, and community-engaged scholarship. The successful candidate will advance these areas while enlarging our departmental presence in the UTRGV Brownsville campus which, together with the Edinburg campus, hosts the Department of Anthropology. Preference will also be given to candidates who can expand students’ involvement in research and who will advance the bilingual, bicultural, biliterate mission of UTRGV. We are very interested in individuals with the potential to teach core courses, and possibly upper-division courses, in Spanish. Applicants should have an active program of research and scholarly publications, documented classroom excellence with innovative course delivery, and demonstrated potential for funded research. This position’s primary location will be the Brownsville campus of UTRGV. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Selected candidates will be required to provide official transcripts from all degree-granting universities. Applications must be submitted through the UTRGV employment portal.

The university enrolls more than 29,000 students in its graduate and undergraduate programs. UTRGV is located in one of the fastest growing regions of the United States.
