Description:

The College of Science & Mathematics dedicates itself to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, as well as research. The Chemistry and Biochemistry department adheres to the mission of the College, and offers high quality programs including a BS in Chemistry (ACS accredited), a BS in Biochemistry (ASBMB accredited), a BA in Chemistry, an MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and several accelerated BS/MS in programs combining our degree paths.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is seeking to hire a qualified individual as a full time Lecturer. This 10-month academic position will require the successful candidate to teach courses for a total of 24 credit hours per academic year. Teaching may include courses over the summer for additional compensation. The teaching assignments will focus around biochemistry and other relevant courses in the field. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to serve on department, college, and/or university-level committees. Additional service opportunities in areas such as alumni outreach, advising students and student organizations, course and lab coordination, and curriculum development is required.

Qualifications:

  • A master's degree or higher in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or closely related discipline is required, PhD preferred
  • Background experience / specialization in the discipline of biochemistry
  • Prior teaching experience is highly desired
  • Experience with outreach to underrepresented groups in STEM is also highly desired
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills are required

Duties:

    Teach courses as determined by programmatic needs and based on individual expertiseServe on department, college, and/or university-level committeesLead/participate in various student-centric programs such as the Learning Assistant program, Peer Mentoring and co-op/internship programsCoordinate courses and labs in the biochemistry sequence, including adjunct trainingAssist with curricular developmentPerform other duties at the discretion of the department

Starting Date: September 1, 2020
