Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary:

This is skilled steam fitting/welding work at the journeyman level, primarily involved with the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the campus steam distribution system, system components and building steam powered equipment. Additionally, work involves pipe fitting and welding in support of steam system and equipment work as well as other general welding work in support of other shop maintenance activities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

*Journeyman level knowledge, skills and abilities of welding or pipe fitting trades.
*Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
*Ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches and other documents related to projects.
*Ability to relate well with others (customers, supervisors, etc..)

Physical Demands:

*Bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, working from standard and extended ladder and/or scaffold, lifting up to 75 lbs throughout an 8 hour work shift.
*Working at times under adverse weather conditions, ie: cold, heat, rain.
*Working at times in small or confined spaces.
