General Summary:

Manages the day-today operation of the BeaconCard Services Office and administration of all services provided by the Atrium One Card service and Lenel OnGuard Access Control System.

The position will be assigned on-call duties in accordance with Article 18.3 of the contract between the University and the Professional Staff Union. Assignment of on-call will be detailed using the On-Call Assignment (Professional Staff) Form.

Examples of Duties:

  • Responsible for the management of Atrium OneCard Services, which centralizes all the functions on the OneCard; maintain all databases and systems, the issuance of the UMass Identification Card, lead all new initiatives as they relate to the OneCard, including the management and oversight of the Lenel access control system, dining system, lost card replacement program, and off-campus merchant program.
  • In conjunction with other departments, coordinate the integration of OneCard and Access Control services technology into university systems, which will include the implementation of card readers in all offices collecting cash, monitoring usage, and verifying data.
  • Ensure the accurate reporting of OneCard and Access Control Services transactions and the receipt of that data by staff responsible for accounting procedures relating to such transactions, which includes but is not limited to, ensuring that the food services provider, vending machine vendors, printer/copier vendors, and off-campus merchants are reimbursed for BeaconCard purchases at their locations, access levels and door access reports.
  • Assist in the design and implement the BeaconCard as well as any cards that will be used on campus for various purposes summer programs, visitors.
  • Serve as primary contact for problem resolution resulting from OneCard based payment operations, as well as reporting, payments, and invoices, which includes vending, copying, laundry, parking and dining systems.
  • Work with all pertinent offices in the management and oversight of the UMass Boston Door Access Control system, currently Lenel Systems. Serve as primary contact for problem resolution resulting from OneCard based access operations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive campus marketing and promotional strategies for OneCard Services, including maintenance of the OneCard Office and the Access System.
  • Ensure technology-based systems are maintained with current software and firmware revisions, are routinely backed-up for data retrieval, and are routinely tested, by others, for emergency power transfer and continuing operations during power failure.
  • Stay up- to-date with trends in the campus card industry to ensure that the university is in line with trends and best practices; formulate and oversee new installations and service contracts; research and evaluate emerging access control technology such as new hardware, software and management tools relating Access Control and related integration software, and campus one-card programs.
  • Collaborate, develop and support departmental initiatives, policy proposals and strategic plans; define, develop and direct the scope, operational priorities, standards, policies, and implementation plans including milestone and performance metrics for projects.
  • Assist staff and improve the knowledge and skills of others, including identifying areas for enhancement, developing training programs and instructing personnel on access control and OneCard related topics.
  • Assist in the work to collaborate with Insurance and Risk Management and Public Safety to define, recommend, and implement access control and security policies and standards.
  • Perform all work in compliance with plans, specifications, industry standards, best practices, and UMB standards; evaluate program effectiveness on a continuous basis.
  • Provide patron tracking, counts, and transactions at campus events for various departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and three to five (3 – 5) years of experience are required. In lieu of of a degree, 5 – 7 years of relevant experience in management of a technology operation, or technology experience in a one card or access control system operation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Adobe Acrobat;
  • Be familiar in the technology hardware and software;
  • Able to attend required training as needed;
  • Able to travel;
  • Able to work extended hours as needed;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and as part of a team, and meet deadlines;
  • Ability and mobility to periodically lift and carry boxes weighing as much as 30 pounds, including up and down stairs;
  • Ability to articulate a strong commitment to diversity, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds;
  • Skill in analyzing and improving operational effectiveness as well as defining program objectives and establishing access control standards, policies, and budgets;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
