The Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a scientist who is using cryo-electron microscopy to address fundamental questions in the structure and function of biological molecules. The position comes with access to 120 kV and 200 kV screening electron microscopes as well as a 300 kV Titan Krios electron microscope. The anticipated start date is July 1st, 2020.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related area, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research. We seek candidates who complement and deepen our existing departmental strengths, which include structural biology, cell biology, chemical biology, biophysics and microbiology. Research excellence will the evidenced by publication in top ranked journals, competitive scholarships or other research funding, and presentations at international conferences, as well as the submitted research statement and strong endorsements from referees of high standing. A track record of successful collaboration would be an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to mount an innovative, original and independently-funded research program of international caliber.

A commitment to excellent teaching and student mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels is required. To this end candidates should provide a statement of teaching philosophy and interests. This could refer to previous experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor, leading workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or awards for oral presentations and posters at conferences.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Biochemistry is one of the premier academic life sciences departments in the world, with 67 full-time faculty members and more than 250 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
