Job Summary The Department of Social Sciences at Clayton State University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Legal Studies to begin in August 2020. Area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to a candidate with a specialty in Legal Research and Writing and who can offer the introductory Law and Ethics course. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can also instruct the introductory course in American Government for the Political Science Program. The position requires 24 semester hours of seated or online undergraduate/graduate teaching per year, and the candidate must have a JD in-hand before August 2020. A PhD in Political Science with a specialty in Public Law will be considered, but a JD is preferred. Successful candidates may be required to teach classes that meet during non-standard (early morning, evening) work hours and/or at the Henry County or Fayette/Peachtree City instructional sites.

Candidates should have evidence of superior teaching and fruitful scholarship, as well as experience working with diverse student and community populations. Success in pursuing externally funded research opportunities is desirable, as is experience or interest in working with non-traditional student populations. The mentoring of undergraduate Legal Studies majors is an essential responsibility.

Required Qualifications JD or Ph.D. in Political Science with 18 hours in Public Law.

Preferred Qualifications J.D. from accredited institution with experience working within the field being taught, or Ph.D. in Political Science with a concentration in Public Law from accredited institution

Technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology in teaching

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
