Position Overview

Butler University’s Information Technology department is currently seeking a passionate and skilled Systems Operations Analyst who is eager to join a team that values education, collaboration, innovation, and fun. The Analyst will enjoy a unique opportunity to be involved in Butler’s enterprise applications, data, and infrastructure systems at all levels including implementation, daily operations, support, and maintenance.

Primarily, the Analyst will focus on system integrations including oversight of account provisioning and decommissioning, single sign-on, and ensuring underlying processes are maintained in a healthy, reliable, and efficient manner. The Analyst will also seek to build upon, improve, and create efficiencies in current processes through automation/scripting. In addition, the Analyst will work in conjunction with the IT Data Team and inter-departmental power users to schedule/review regular processes and assist with data integrations between the university’s system of record and other applications. The Analyst will be responsible for some application support and related systems infrastructure support.

In this role, the Analyst will work closely with the IT Operations, Data, and Enterprise Architecture teams on implementation projects, maintain vendor relationships, carry out limited end-user training, and remain current on technology/application trends. The Analyst will also work closely with Butler’s faculty and staff as well as partner organizations to translate business needs into workable solutions, while continually evaluating existing systems and implementing changes to improve them.

Key accountabilities of the Systems Operations Analyst include:

    Oversee user account management and accompanying processes/automations

    Oversee single sign-on environment (including AD, LDAP, GSuite, and Auth0) and implement new SSO integrations

    Seek opportunities to create efficiencies and/or automations in existing applications or systems

    Respond to client requests regarding parameters for standard data loads

    Schedule processes, review process logs and re-schedule the IT processes that run from a wide variety of systems/applications

    Select application support/other infrastructure support tasks as assigned

    Analyze system/business processes to identify inefficiencies and develop strategies for improvement

    Build and maintain system documentation and support articles for a variety of audiences

    Provide world-class service and support for university students, faculty, staff, and guests

Minimum requirements include:

    3+ years of full time experience in a technical support environment

    Scripting/automation experience, preferably with Python, PowerShell, and/or Bash

Preferred requirements include:

    Experience with single sign-on implementation/maintenance

    Experience with maintenance of user account provisioning systems

    Demonstrated experience in seeking/implementing efficiencies/improvements to existing systems

    Network/platform-agnostic network troubleshooting and support experience

    Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field

    Linux/UNIX, Windows Server administration experience

    Experience in a higher education and/or a large/complex IT organization

Additionally, qualified candidates should possess the following:

    Proven customer service and telephone skills; professional appearance and demeanor under pressure

    Desire to learn and support multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, Apple, etc.)

    Ability to visualize, articulate, conceptualize and solve problems

    Experience leading small and mid-sized projects

    Ability to organize/manage work that is assigned from different sources while balancing shifting priorities

    Flexibility in a changing environment and self-starter, capable of making independent decisions

    Character traits including: trustworthy, exhibits bias for action and avoids analysis paralysis, seeks to understand before being understood, client advocate, willing to change and try new things

    Willingness to work extra hours as needed; some evenings, early mornings and weekends to accommodate maintenance window
