Big Bend Community College invites applications for a Associate (part-time) Crop Science Faculty position in the College's Agriculture Program.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

This position will be responsible to prepare and teach the following agriculture courses or combination thereof including Crop Production, Water Management, Weeds, Pest Management, and Ag Safety & Pesticide. Some courses will include a laboratory component. This position will teach 1-2 courses per quarter depending on the quarterly course schedule and will report to the Dean of Workforce Education.

Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is based on $723.49/per lecture credit.

Essential Job Duties

Primary essential responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

• Teach the following principles as related to agriculture: classification, morphology, anatomy, growth and development, ecology and management of arthropod and pathogenic pests and noninfectious diseases of crop plants. Instruction emphasizes ecologically based pest management approaches.
• Meet the class times as required by the quarterly schedule.
• Assist students with questions related to the course(s) being taught.
• Maintain frequent communication with their students.
• Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
• Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required.
• Maintaining student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
• Post syllabi quarterly to the portal for each course taught.
• Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters in Agriculture or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous agricultural work experience.
• Previous teaching experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
