Position Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, perform a wide range of duties designed to preserve the health and beauty of plants on campus. Irrigate, fertilize, mow, edge, trim, and cultivate lawns and shrubs, utilizing various power and hand tools, drive 1/2 and 1-1/2 ton trucks and utility tractors. Identify plant pests and diseases. Prioritize and schedule work assignments, instruct and explain work procedures to co-workers and report material and equipment needs to supervisor. Perform special enhancement to grounds areas in preparation for special events. Coordinate with section mechanics to ensure preventative maintenance and repairs of assigned equipment. Administer subordinate employee's orientation, on-the-job training, and ensure their understanding of the work crew's duties, responsibilities, safe equipment operations practices and Facilities Management Policies and Procedures. Monitor subordinate staff performance by inspecting their work area and make disciplinary and incentive recommendations to department supervisory staff.
