Department Description

The Entrepreneurship Center is a program unit at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School that leads entrepreneurship curricular and co-curricular programs and sponsors several cross-campus programs under its Learn-Launch-Lead rubric including the Carolina Challenge (a campus-wide venture competition), 1789 (a design lab), Launch Chapel Hill (a leading venture accelerator), and the Adams Apprenticeship (an alumni talent development program for UNC students), among others. As such, the Center is a central catalyst for the entrepreneurial ecosystem at UNC and serves as a major contributor of the culture leveraging the assets of the Kenan-Flagler Business School. The operating model of the Center is called Learn-Launch-Lead, where the program leads the curriculum, the experience, and the network that drives the prominence of the university’s entrepreneurship program, perennially ranked among the top 20 nationally.

Position Description

The Program Coordinator of The Entrepreneurship Center works closely with the Center’s Director to coordinate key functions of the Center, including: curricular and instructional support; communications/client relationships; and administrative and program support for thought-leadership and fund-raising functions in the Director’s purview. The position serves as the primary contact for students in the Director’s classes; coaches/mentors/ judges/speakers participating in his classes; as well as alumni, donors, community leaders, public officials, and university leaders. The Program Coordinator communicates teaching schedules and details, develops documentation to maintain course operations and student engagement, and responds to questions and concerns from students in all classes. The Program Coordinator supports the Center Director in communications with constituencies and also coordinates events, meetings, conferences, and site visits. The Program Coordinator supervises student workers engaged in the Center Director’s teaching, research, and outreach responsibilities. The Program Coordinator provides support to the Center Director, with scheduling/calendar management; developing and managing documents; editing and drafting documents; greeting guests; and coordinating activities with the Center Director related to their job duties.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Communication-Written: Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in written form; ability to adjust language or terminology to meet the needs of the audience; ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure.
Research Support: Be able to undertake searches for data relating to the Center Director’s program of research and compile data and citations as requested.
Client Engagement and Customer Service: The ability to coordinate communications and logistics for a range of constituencies engaged with the Center Director, including alumni, students, VIP visitors, and university stakeholders; support the Director in his work with the Center Leadership Council.

Some domestic travel may be required and occasional after-hours and/or weekend works is needed.

Preferred Qualifications

An undergraduate degree with education and experience in entrepreneurship is preferred. The ideal candidate is proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Client Relationship Software (CRM), as well as administrative programs and Content and Learning Management Systems. Demonstrated skills with excellent customer service and team management and communication skills, including verbal communications and written communications that are concise with accurate spelling and grammar. Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. At the ATN Training center, students may take classes on software packages and utilities. Computer labs are available for student use all over campus.

Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
