General Description / Primary Purpose

The Assistant Director of Development for Academic Affairs is responsible for supporting fundraising for key Academic Affairs programs and initiatives to include, but not limited to, The Carpenter Library, The Honors College, The Environmental Center, Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnic Relations, LGBT Resource Center, MVRC, Continuing Education, as well as other Academic Units and Programs as directed by priorities of the Director of Development or above.

Essential Duties

Job Function

-Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects for major and planned gifts from appropriate donors, leaders, corporations and potential donors to support fundraising goals.
-Work with the Director and other Academic Affairs staff to determine fundraising priorities and goals.
-Provide leadership in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors.
-Research and connect with foundations, corporations, and government sources to expand base of support within and beyond region.
-Initiate and implement fundraising efforts for special projects as identified by the Director.
-Write solicitation proposals and grant proposals.
-Work with community stakeholders to cultivate relationships and financial support.
-Prepare yearly goals and objectives that identify priorities and detail strategies and targeted asks for donors and prospects.
-Manage a portfolio of qualified major and planned gift prospects of approximately 125.
-Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies in accordance with institutional standards.
-Support fundraising initiatives associated with Dean’s Leadership Councils for assigned Academic Affairs Programs.
-Collaborate with the University Development and Alumni Engagement staff on major, planned, and annual gifts.
-Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and one year of experience directly related to the job functions.

Faculty Position Required QualificationsDepartmental Requirements

Preference shown to applicants who meet the required qualifications and also possess the following:
-Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization.
-Minimum of three years of progressively responsible professional experience directly related to the job functions.
-Ability to forge strong working relationships with others and a capacity for engaging confidence and trust among prospects and donors.
-Strong communication, presentation and writing skills.
-Ability to conduct personal solicitations and manage volunteers.
-A track record of successfully closing planned and/or major gifts and meeting contributed income goals in a competitive fundraising environment.
-Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to balance and advance multiple projects.
-High motivation for success coupled with diplomacy, tact, and consistent follow through.
-Willingness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
-Willingness and ability to travel and to work evening and weekend hours.
-Excellent interpersonal skills.
-Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
-Proven ability to effectively utilize computer application technology, internet and email.
