Hoxworth Blood Center has provided care to the region for decades. We are a nonprofit, community organization providing blood components, clinical and technical services to hospitals, physicians and patients and serving as a center for education and research. The Laboratories Division of Hoxworth Blood Center seeks a Manager of the Quality Control Laboratory (QC Lab). The ideal candidate will have ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and supervisory level experience in the area of donor center activities and/or blood banking/ transfusion medicine.

The Manager of this CLIA regulated lab is responsible for providing leadership, expertise and oversight of the department staff through staff development, training, and managing department resources. The Manager, working with the Assistant Director of Labs, the Division Director of Laboratories, and the Medical Director, assures that departmental processes, procedures, and quality control activities are compliant with accreditation and regulatory standards.

The successful candidate will support the Assistant Director of Labs with responsibilities related to all aspects of testing, technical operation of the department including staff supervision for all technical employees, employee counseling and evaluation and other standard supervisory functions. Other duties include assisting the Assistant Director of Labs with developing/managing contracts and bids, budget development and management, management of a quality control testing of blood and blood components, relevant projects, training and education of selected transfusion service technologists, bachelor/master of science students and post-doctoral physicians/scientists.

Minimum Qualifications:

MT (ASCP) or equivalent laboratory certification with three (3) years experience; -OR- Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years experience.
