HR & Payroll Coordinator

The University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education (MCE) invites applications for an HR and Payroll Coordinator.

Position Summary

This position serves as the HR and Payroll Coordinator for the Morgridge College of Education and reports to the Finance Manager. Responsibilities include: processing financial transactions and coordinating the human resource and payroll processes ; working collaboratively with departmental assistants in the 10 programs / 5 departments, and centers and institutes to ensure their financial and human resources duties are handled in an accurate and timely fashion; serving as the human resources liaison to ensure all MCE human resources and payroll-related transactions are handled in an accurate and timely fashion. This individual is responsible for all accounting and finance coordination related to labor, including position management, hiring coordination, payroll, and labor contract management for adjuncts, faculty, and staff.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Finance Manager for MCE with human resources and payroll support
  • Review and ensure accurate completion of human resources and payroll forms, and entries into DU systems.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all MCE Search Committees
  • Work with DU Recruitment to ensure all vacancies are posted in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate the processing and approval of all bi-weekly and monthly payrolls for the MCE Division.
  • Perform HR-related duties including background checks, timely processing of hiring, personnel change, and separation paperwork, including reviewing and approving all non-benefited hiring.
  • Maintain direct contact with the Human Resources, and the Office of Planning, Budget & analysis regarding human resources and operational matters.
  • Maintain the DU Portfolio site on MCE HR functions.
  • Coordinate the adjunct and faculty overload hiring and payment processes:
    • Act as point of contact for questions related to the processing and monitoring of adjunct approvals.
    • Ensure adjunct hiring letters are prepared, mailed and returned.
    • Ensure adjunct hiring corresponds with what is approved by the Department Chairs.
    • Using the information provided by Department Chairs and enrollment data, enter adjunct and overload positions into the hiring system.
    • Ensure accurate salary payments for summer adjunct and overload faculty are made, based on enrollment data.
  • Independently resolves and/or develops recommendations for unprecedented issues and problems. Problem resolution requires some interpretation of policy and procedures. Serves as a resource for others. Assumes responsibilities for and manages the results of decisions.
  • Interprets guidelines, answers inquiries and advises others regarding processes services and operations as applied to non-standard situations.
  • Performs research, data collection, and analysis of information. Utilizes and manipulates data from different internal systems.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of various complex processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work well across multiple divisions and with a variety of constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, administration and the general public.
  • Self-starter, independent decision-maker, helpful and motivated to serve others and solve diverse problems.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2 years full time work experience in general office experience, with at least 1 year full time work experience of working with payroll, human resources issues, or financial data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills.
  • Experience analyzing Human Resources trends and metrics in developing solutions, programs and policies.
  • Experience with MS Office with particular skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of office experience related to human resources administration.
  • Masters Degree in Business or related field.
  • 3-5 years in higher education and/or business setting.
  • Hands-on experience with Banner Finance and Payroll systems.
  • Proficient with HR policies and processes at the University.

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. The noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Evenings and weekends as required.

Salary Range:
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
