The Department of Anthropology at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in archaeology, at the assistant professor level, to begin Fall 2020. The successful candidate will contribute to department’s baccalaureate degrees in anthropology, M.A. in anthropology, and Ph.D. in applied anthropology. Responsibilities of the position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in archaeology and applied archaeology; developing external funding to support an active research program; and contributing to the department and university through service activities. The department is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction and public engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in their cover letter, indicating their experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications

1) Earned Ph.D. in anthropology or archaeology at the time of application; and
2) Research agenda in the prehistory of Texas or adjacent regions, which may include the Southwest, Plains and Southeast of the U.S, or Northern Mexico.

Preferred Qualifications

1) Peer-reviewed publications in the prehistoric archaeology of Texas or adjacent regions;
2) Experience in teaching, or the ability to teach, courses such as introduction to archaeology, Texas archaeology, North American archaeology, CRM archaeology, archaeological theory, archaeological methods, and field school;
3) An active research program, or clear plans to institute an active research program in areas that complement our current faculty research activities;
4) Experience in methodologies and/or technologies that expand on those currently offered by the department;
5) Evidence of external research funding, or a plan to obtain future external research funding that would support the candidates research and/or teaching agendas;
6) Experience with education and outreach to the public; and
7) A commitment to advancing diversity.
