The Santiago Canyon College Division of Continuing Education at Orange Education Center wishes to develop a pool of qualified applicants for part-time and substitute teaching opportunities in this discipline.

Salary
Lecture Hourly Rate: $51.89 - $54.53

Benefits
Paid sick days are earned in accordance with the CEFA contract (excludes substitutes).

Starting Date: As needed.

Responsibilities
Teach all assigned classes, which may include evening or off-campus assignments unless excused according to Board Policy provisions. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress. Assist in maintaining course outline for each assigned course. Be familiar with and observe the administrative regulations as they appear in the Faculty Handbook (flex calendar obligations, course overviews, etc.). Participate in department committees and activities. Will teach a variety of courses/levels within the discipline/area of study.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
(Applicants must meet one of the following):
  • The minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member to provide noncredit specialized instructions, must meet one
    of the requirements from each of the following areas:
    For students with disabilities shall be any one of the following:
    1. Possess from an accredited institution: A bachelor's degree with any of the following majors: education of students
    with specific or multiple disabilities; special education; psychology; physical education with an emphasis in adaptive physical education; communicative disorders; rehabilitation; computer-based education; other computer related majors which include course work on adapted or assisted computer technology for students with disabilities; other majors related to providing specialized instruction or services to person with disabilities, OR
    2. An associate degree with one of the majors specified above; and four (4) years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category or categories being served; OR
    3. For noncredit vocational courses, an associate degree or certificate of training; and four (4) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught and two (2) years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category being served; AND
    For short-term noncredit vocational course, any one of the following:
    1. A bachelor's degree; and two (2) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR
    2. An associate degree; and six (6) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR
    3. Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing
    instruction in the subject matter; OR
    4. For courses in an occupation for which the district offers or has offered apprenticeship instruction, the minimum
    qualifications for noncredit apprenticeship instructors in that occupation, OR
  • Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR
  • The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section
    in the application form and provide conclusive evidence of such).

    Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and widely varying levels of student preparedness.
  • A working knowledge of and experience with competency-based instruction, student learning outcomes and assessment.

  • Credentials or minimum qualifications authorizing service in other areas of need

  • Bilingual ability (if needed)

    Based upon the information presented on the application materials, a limited number of candidates with qualifications most pertinent to the position will be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include a written test and oral interview.

    Interview
    Applicants selected for an interview may be required to take additional tests or assessments and will be notified of such prior to the date of the interview. During the oral session, those selected for interviews, in addition to the above, may be evaluated on the following factors:
  • Oral communication skills
  • Presentation
  • Problem solving skills
  • Successful teaching, problem solving or performance demonstration
  • Writing skills/demonstration

    Applicants are requested to provide thorough yet concise information on their related experience to ensure correct evaluation of their qualifications. A predetermined set of questions will be asked during all interviews. Evaluation criteria will be applied consistently to all applicants.

    Pre-Employment Requirements
    Candidates selected for employment will be required to provide current verification of a negative TB test or chest x-ray, complete the district's fingerprinting process, and bring proof of their legal right to work in the United States. Cost of TB testing, fingerprinting and the fee for criminal record check will be paid for by the candidates.

    Working at Rancho Santiago Community College District

    In the heart of Orange County lies Rancho Santiago Community College District, home of one of the state’s oldest community colleges, Santa Ana College, and also one of its newest, Santiago Canyon College. Centered in a growing and dynamic area, the district serves a population of more than 700,000 residents in the communities of Anaheim Hills, Garden Grove, Irvine, Orange, Santa Ana, Tustin and Villa Park.

    Encompassing 24 percent of Orange County’s total area (193 square miles), the district maintains eight facilities. Rancho Santiago Community College District is home to two colleges and four continuing education centers throughout the Central Orange County area. In addition, the college district presents convenient community education courses in many other locations in cooperation with its education and community partners.

    Santa Ana College founded in 1915, is a comprehensive community college preparing students for the workplace as well as to transfer to four-year higher learning institutions. Students may earn an associate degree certificate. For those willing to commit to high academic achievement, honors courses are offered. The college also assists students in gaining basic skills and technology proficiency so they can pursue other goals. It is located at the corner of West 17th Street and Bristol in Santa Ana on about 58 acres.

    Santiago Canyon College, one of the state’s newest community colleges, offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes university transfer as well as associate degree programs. Honors courses are offered to those with high academic achievement goals. In addition, the college provides community services, technical certificate programs, non-credit courses and basic skills instruction. Situated on 82 acres, the college is located in Orange at the corner of Chapman Avenue and Newport Drive.
