Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, is seeking applicants for the Director of Patricia McArver Public Speaking Lab. The Director will report to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. The Director will provide support for the Office of the Provost and Dean of the College in running the Public Speaking Lab, provide coaching and assistance college-wide for presentations and public speaking, and administer the college’s public speaking club. The Director will also teach four Leadership Communication classes during the academic year.

The Public Speaking Lab Director:

  • Coaches classes, groups and individuals to become better speakers in classroom and college-wide presentations
  • Administers the Citadel’s Toastmasters public speaking club. These duties include attending all club meetings, recruiting cadet membership and leadership, cultivating an inviting, exciting, and positive club culture, and maintaining records for Toastmasters
  • Hosts Corps-Wide Speaking Contests and facilitates member participation in regional and national competitions
  • Promotes the Public Speaking Lab as a resource to faculty, staff, and students
  • Monitors and updates recording equipment
  • Interacts with financial supporters
  • Teaches four Leadership Communication courses each academic year

  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Communications, or a related field that requires excellent communications skills
  • A record of successful teaching and professional experience in a communications-related field
  • Proficiency with communication technology
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and cadets in an academic environment
