TheManager of Sports and Youth Programs provides leadership to the administrationand supervision of a comprehensive sports and youth programs portfolio that includesclub sports, intramural sports, and youth programs. These programs are designedto enhance the wellness, leadership development, and participant connection tothe campus community through structured sports, events, general recreationactivities, and youth programs. This position supervises the ProgramCoordinator of Sports and Youth Programs with shared oversight of 20-25 studentemployees, 18 club sport teams with 450 participants, over 40 intramuralleagues and events with over 3,200 participants annually, over 55 differentyouth program activities (i.e. camps, kids night/day out programs, birthdayparties), and events in partnership with other units that support studentretention, recruitment, and success. This position provides leadership for the development, implementation,and assessment of the Sports and Youth Programs short- and long-term objectivesincluding strategic planning, budget development and management, policy andprocedures, facility coordination, equipment lifecycle planning, riskmanagement, and program performance standards/evaluations.

Thisposition reports to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, and directlysupervises the Program Coordinator of Sports and Youth Programs (1.0 FTE),Coordinator of Athletic Training (1.0 FTE), and oversees approximately 20-25student employees including Sports and Youth Program Assistants andSupervisors, RecKids Monitors and Sport Officials as well as 5-10 volunteerclub sport coaches in cooperation with the Program Coordinator of Sports andYouth Programs.

Sportsand Youth Programs Leadership and Administration

  • Directs the research, strategic planning, development, financial management, facility and equipment needs, risk management, and assessment of the delivery of the department’s Sports and Youth Programs
  • Provides leadership, supervision, and management of Sports and Youth Programs that includes a comprehensive intramural sports program with over 40 program activities, club sports program with 18 clubs, RecKids program with over 55 program activities, and athletic training serving club sports and UCCS students and Campus Recreation members.
  • Coordinate and manage the athletic training MOU with Centura Health and UCCS Medical Director of Wellness Center.
  • Addresses student and Campus Recreation member interests in sports not currently offered in the program and coordinates the research development of new intramural sports, club sports, and RecKids offerings.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, compilation and management of Sports and Youth Program budget, strategic and assessment plans (collect, analyze and report data) and annual reports.
  • Accountable for the identification, development, application, and evaluation of policies and procedures related to club sports, intramural sports, youth programs, and athletic training in accordance with industry standards and university guidelines.   
  • Coordinates, maintains, and schedules Sports and Youth Program social media and website content.
  • Responsible for the coordination of marketing materials in conjunction with Campus Recreation Student Marketing Team and Auxiliary Marketing to promote program activities; including posters, flyers, websites, brochures, etc.
  • Coordinate the development and review of program area handbooks for club sports, intramural sports, youth programs, and athletic training.
  • Participates in meetings, committees, work teams and activities with university departments and/or Campus Recreation in the promotion and advancement of the Campus Recreation Sports and Youth Programs.
  • Coordinates efforts to develop and establish relationships with colleagues within the department and across campus for student engagement, wellness, and leadership opportunities that enhance Sports and Youth Programs (i.e. Student Life, MOSAIC, Residence Life, Dean of Student Office, Student Veteran Center, Wellness Center, etc.).
  • Attend professional development conferences, workshops, seminars and advocate for professional development throughout the department.
  • Participate in the development of ideas and suggestions for program, facility, and service improvements 
  • Position is required to attend Campus Recreation classes and/or programs and use various facilities and equipment periodically to ensure that they are meeting or exceeding department and industry standards and risk management guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission, vision, and core values of Campus Recreation and the Division of Student Success.  
  • Intramural Sports

  • Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates an Intramural Sports Program, including a diverse offering of individual/dual and team sport activities that meet participant needs, skill levels, and safety/risk management guidelines.
  • Responsible for the coordination and oversight of intramural leagues and events, including activity implementation, officials training, and participant conduct.
  • Provides coordination, implementation, and evaluation of Faculty/Staff sport leagues and events, including Faculty/Staff Games.
  • In coordination with colleagues, develops and schedules annual/semester intramural activity schedule including facilities, equipment, marketing, and maintenance.
  • Coordinates the organization of the intramural registration process and manager’s meetings. Administers and maintains recreational management software (Fusion IM) that supports league, activity, participant, and management, as well as official and game scheduling.
  • Maintain and inventory all intramural sports equipment and supplies.
  • Club Sports

  • Coordinates and oversees the administration and advising of the Club Sport Program that includes a diverse offering of student club sport teams. Works in partnership (facilitator model) with student leaders and clubs to successfully implement club sport activities while adhering to university, department, and national governing body policies, procedures, and safety/risk management regulations.
  • Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates outcome-based leadership trainings for club sport leaders, members, and coaches.
  • Reviews, reports, and approves club sport financial accounts, including budget development, purchase requests, payments, sponsorships, fundraising, donations, and in-kind gifts.
  • Reviews and submits club sport contracts, agreements, and permits for approval through University Procurement Service Center and Human Resources.
  • In coordination with colleagues, submits and schedules annual/quarterly club sport team activity schedules including facilities, equipment, marketing, and maintenance.
  • Coordinates, advises, and approves club sport activity including practices, games, tournaments, events, and travel.
  • Reviews and approves club sport marketing/promotion in conjunction with department and university marketing/branding guidelines.
  • Administrates and maintains online club sport database registration and management of membership, activity, equipment, coach information, reports/evaluations, marketing/promotion requests, budget/sponsorship requests, and awards.
  • Provides guidance and oversight to Club Sport Committee, which includes the deliberation and approval of new club sports, review of club sport budget requests, the review and establishment of policy, advising the program on campus/club sport issues or concerns, and the addressing of grievances.
  • Youth Programs

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of RecKids activities and services including youth camps, birthday parties, and kids’ night or day out.
  • Accountable for the supervision of daily operations of youth camp programs, birthday parties and kids’ night or day out.
  • Assist in the completion and compliance of university minors on campus policies and reporting.
  • Supervision

  • Provides leadership and direct supervision of two professional staff members including planning, assigning, and reviewing work.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, assigns work, and evaluates student personnel including Sports and Youth Program Assistants, Sports and Youth Program Supervisors, RecKids Monitors, Sport Officials, practicum/internship students, and volunteer club sport coaches.
  • Manages payroll budget for 20+ students
  • Coordinates, implements, and evaluates outcome based developmental trainings and meetings for student staff, club sport officers, and coaches.

  • This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority and Mandatory Reporter.
  • Certification in CPR with AED, Standard First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens/Universal Precautions is required within 90 days of hire.
  • This position primarily worksin an office setting but requires the person to demonstrate and be active inofficials’ trainings, participation in sport and youth activities andset-up/clean-up for events.  Employee mayneed to push, pull, lift, and carry objects up to 50lbs.  

    For the purposes of FLSA this position has been determinedto be exempt from (not eligible for) overtime under FLSA.


    Salary Range $43,000.00 to $50,000.00

    QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Recreation or Sport Management/Administration, Higher Education, Public Administration, Physical Education, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in the administration and implementation of intramural sports, club sports, recreational or student activity programs and events, youth programs, and/or related field.
  • Four (4) years of demonstrated financial management experience including budget development and reporting.
  • Four (4) years of demonstrated experience in sport league and event management, including organizing, coordinating game and facility scheduling, mitigating risk, implementing, and evaluating of sport and/or youth programs.
  • Four (4) years of demonstrated experience in student supervising, advising, training/development, and evaluating of student employees, club sport officers, club sport coaches, and/or practicum/interns.
  • Four (4) years of demonstrated experience in sports officiating and sport rule application as well as ability to hire, train, supervise, and evaluate sport officials.

  • PreferredQualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a field appropriate to the work.
  • Five (5) years or more of professional experience in the administration and implementation of a collegiate Intramural Sports or Club Sports or Youth Program.
  • Demonstrated experience in contracting, procurement, and insurance.
  • Demonstrated experience with online data and scheduling management system(s) in supporting student organizations and/or sport leagues/activities.
