The Supervisor of Custodians is responsible for direct supervision of the custodial staff within all college buildings. The position will also assist the Facilities Operations Manager in conducting inspections, training, and scheduling of the custodial staff. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. The incumbent is required to assist in meeting the operational needs of the College during emergencies and college closures, as well as, ensure continuity of strategic services.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the daily supervision and scheduling of the custodial staff.
Provide staff training in the proper use of equipment and AACC custodial procedures.
Assure compliance with the safety policies and procedures including the use of all personal protective equipment, safe work practices and safety data awareness.
Effectively communicate departmental procedures to the staff to assure expectations are consistently fulfilled.
Assure custodial work orders are completed in a timely fashion. Report any deferrals to the Facilities Operations Manager. Generate new work orders for items in need of repair.
Assure areas are only unlocked to accommodate custodial access and are secured immediately upon completion of work. Maintain building perimeter security at all times.
Perform and document periodic inspections of all buildings.
Assure energy efficient use of room lighting within all buildings.
Assure refuse is properly cleared from each building and disposed of in the designated areas daily.
Supervise the distribution of supplies to the staff and assure all SDS information is properly disseminated. Ensure all supplies are at PAR level and notify the Facilities Operations Manager when supplies need to be ordered.
Maintain accurate inventories of custodial equipment and materials. Monitor supply issuances to confirm efficient use of products. Assure that custodial storage areas are kept in a clean and orderly manner.
Notify the Facilities Operations Manager promptly of any departmental concerns.
The ability to complete the duties of subordinates as needed.
A high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
A minimum of three years of progressively responsible custodial experience is required.
Demonstrated ability to use heavy industrial equipment, such as buffers and vacuum cleaners, and move furniture and supplies, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Ability to work safely and reliably with minimum of supervision.Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, throughout an 8 hours shift.
Must have the ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. throughout an 8 hour shift.
Must be able to work outdoors in varied weather conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow and slippery conditions.
Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record as determined by college policy.
Proven record of attendance and reliability.
Must have at least three years supervisory experience in the custodial industry. Successful completion of a supervisory training program, preferred.
Proficient oral, written and electronic communication skills.
Ability to interact professionally and effectively with students, faculty staff and the public.
Ability to speak, read and write basic Spanish
