Job Description:

Summary of Position:
The Admission Counselor works as a member of the undergraduate admissions staff to promote the value of a Womens college education. This position will recruit, evaluate and admit students to the College and meet enrollment goals. The Admission Counselor position plays a vital role in ensuring that prospective students, counselors, and community partners are inspired, informed, and counseled on Mills Colleges academic programs and resources. The Office of Admissions is a fast-paced, professional and confidential work environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop, Execute, and Evaluate Recruitment Strategies
  • Develops strategic travel plan in assigned recruitment territory including high school visits, college fairs, and on and off campus presentations to interact with prospective students
  • Coordinate all aspects of recruitment travel through scheduling, transportation and accommodations
  • Attend receptions for admitted students and conduct presentations on the benefits of a Mills College education
  • Coordinate and monitor prospective students interaction with the Mills community i.e. current students, athletics, academic programs, student resources, and alumnae
  • Develop and report enrollment data on trends in assigned recruitment territory
  • 10 to 12 weeks of travel is required, including evening and weekend work, primarily during fall months

    Evaluate Applications

  • Maintains reports and records on application activity in assigned recruitment territory
  • Helps prospective students update and submit all required admission documents to complete applications
  • Evaluate applications for admission and provide recommendations to the admission committee
  • Application evaluation requires 10 weeks of file review, including evening and weekend work, primarily during winter months

    Admission Counseling

  • Establish, develop, and maintain communication with prospective students , their families, guidance counselors and community partners through phone, email, mail, interviews, and presentations

    Special Projects

  • Chairs working group/project in admission office, e.g. athletics, social media, yield receptions, bridge programs and scholarship committees
  • Develops communication plans for working group/project in admission office
  • Coordinates activities and communication with offices on and off campus including but not limited to academic programs, financial aid office, college fair organizers, and alumnae
  • Meet and communicate with the entire admission team to maintain clear communication and the progress of shared goals
  • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements:

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Required:

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Intermediate knowledge of Social Media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to exhibit strong customer service orientation for all levels of College constituencies and members of the public.
  • Ability to take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment

    Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Admissions cycles, processes, procedures and data
  • Knowledge of Admissions recruiting and communications strategies
  • Knowledge of financial aid policies and cycles

    Education and Training

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required

    Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • This position may require extended periods of sitting and doing computer work. It also requires the ability to walk around the 135-acre Mills campus
  • Valid drivers license and proof of current vehicle insurance

    Additional Information:

    This is a full-time, exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with college-matching after 6 month qualifying period, 10 days of vacation for year one, 15 days of vacation for years 2-10, and 22 days of vacation years 10+ plus, 12 sick days and 17 paid holidays (subject to annual review). Staff members also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period. Voluntary benefits include: pet insurance, long-term care insurance, legal-assistance insurance, cellular provider discounts and computer hardware discounts.
