Research Assistant I - Georgetown University Medical Center

The Research Assistant I provides a wide variety of moderately complex to complex technical support for a research lab. S/he assists in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives. Directly reporting to the Private Investigator (PI) as well as other lab members assigned by the PI, the Research Assistant I has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Orders supplies.
  • Manages animal handling, collecting tissues, and processing.
  • Handles cell cultures and other lab techniques.
  • Manages other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Associate Degree; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience
  • Familiarity with day to day assistance required in the laboratory such as ordering reagents and keeping inventories
  • Ability to carry out the laboratory techniques such as Western blotting, PCR, and RT-PCR
  • Experience with tissue culture techniques, handling rodents, maintaining breeding colonies, and collecting tissues and their processing
  • Willingness to learn and work extended office hours and during weekends when necessary
