Detailed Description:

Under the supervision of the Director, the teacher, with a co-teacher, implements a developmentally appropriate program of education and care for children aged 2 and ½ through five in a full day setting. The teacher participates in all aspects of the program, including curriculum development, goal setting and evaluation, assessment of individual growth and development, and conferences with parents. The teacher also provides guidance to student employees, practicum/field experience students, interns, and volunteers. Works under the general supervision of the Director, according to the program philosophy and state-mandated requirements. This position closely supervises students and volunteers as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate a classroom environment that supports individual and classroom goals for growth and development and in which children at various developmental levels are stimulated, challenged, and engaged.
  • Collaborates with a co-teacher to plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for 12-15 children supported by the Center’s philosophy and mission. Plans and prepares written goals for both individual children and the group as a whole.
  • Provides active supervision of and involvement with children as assigned.
  • With a co-teacher and parent involvement, maintains progressive documentation of children’s growth and development based on individual and classroom goals and regular, ongoing assessment.
  • Maintains close communication with parents to discuss and analyze growth and development. Develops and maintains method of regular communication with parents including written information about curriculum and events, and daily informal updates related to each child.
  • Engages in collaborative reflection of teaching practices and classroom events with co-teacher and center staff. Participates in regular team meetings to facilitate collaboration.
  • Provides guidance to USD practicum, field experience, and/or interning students as assigned according to their course requirements and individual goals. Participates in evaluation of student performance as assigned.
  • Participates in school evens and organizations as requested.
  • Maintains supply inventories and generates supply request lists as needed
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• 12 secondary units in Early Childhood Education
• Minimum of one year of experience in a full day Child Development Center working with children between the ages of 2 and 5.
• Pediatric 1st aid and CPR certification
• Proof of negative TB screening
• LiveScan screening to include fingerprint clearance and child abuse index

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate’s Degree or higher in ECE or Child Development
• Three years of experience in a full day Child Development Center working with children between the ages of 2 and 5

Performance Expectations - Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

The teacher must demonstrate knowledge of Child Development and Developmentally Appropropriate Practice to be successful. Must have the ability to work independently and manage a group of up to 12 children with or without a co-teacher. Knowledge and awareness of licensing standards and assessment of the environment are necessary to provide excellence.

Posting Salary:

$15.94 - $19.92 per hour; Excellent Benefits.
