The Executive Assistant is the primary assistant to the Dean of Watson College of Education and is a key member of the Dean’s Office with a focus on policy, program implementation, and facilitation. This position is responsible for central coordination of all activities for the Dean and will help the Dean execute the Watson College’s priorities and ensure that these priorities are implemented. This position serves as the Dean’s liaison to internal and external stakeholders and work on special projects as assigned and is the senior administrative support person in the Watson College. This position communicates with key university administrators, collegiate administrators, faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders and will assist in relationship building with the same. The Executive Assistant requires a high degree of diplomacy and discretion to handle confidential and sensitive information. This position is expected to understand and communicate the mission and vision of the Watson College of Education, promote diversity, serve as a mentor and role model for appropriate performance, maintain the college’s standards of integrity, internal controls and comply with university policy.

This position will also manage organizational policies and procedures necessary to ensure appropriate decision-making protocols are followed and will be engaged in problem-solving activities for all stakeholders. This position must have a deep understanding of the college and the ability to achieve and sustain the trust of stakeholders.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience;
or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position

Working knowledge of office practices and methods

Excellent oral, written and communication skills are required; i.e., the ability to communicate effectively verbally and through written correspondence as well as in communicating with individuals in one-on-one situations

Must be able to work independently, use initiative, and make substantive decision quickly

Ability to coordinate work with other employees, providing direct instruction or supervision assigned

Ability to coordinate work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgement based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities

Experience successfully creating and/or modifying processes

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the stakeholders

Ability to represent the college and university in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner

Ability to maintain confidentiality on personnel matters and college activities

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

Fundamental knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure of an institute of higher education

Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel software packages

Experience in leave keeping, supervision and public relations
