The University Archives Library Specialist assists with processing and reprocessing University Archives collections of multiple formats, including performing and carrying out all tasks associated with archival processing. This position contributes to the implementation of departmental policies and procedures including university records retention policies. This position will assist with the development of on-site and virtual exhibits and other forms of public outreach associated with University Archives. The University Archives Library Specialist assists with hiring, training and supervising student assistants. This position also assists students, faculty, community and professional researchers with general research requests in University Archives including e-mail, telephone, and in-person inquiries.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Graduation from a four-year college or university and one year of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or high school and five years experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position

•Working knowledge of archival principles and practices utilized in the processing of manuscript collections
•Working knowledge of Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS)
•Experience using an archival management system such as Archon, Archivist’s Toolkit, or ArchivesSpace

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

•Experience providing reference services in a library
•Familiarity with library automated cataloging systems
•Familiarity with digital library systems such as CONTENTdm
•Familiarity with digitization equipment
•Knowledge of metadata standards including MARC, Dublin Core, PREMIS.
•Experience with developing and installing exhibits
•Familiarity with concepts in digital preservation
•Familiarity with seeking grant opportunities
•Proficiency with MS Office, including Microsoft Excel
