The Director is responsible for the overall operation and management of ACCESS (Disability Services) to include hiring, supervising, and evaluating personnel; preparing and maintaining budgets, and overseeing the provision of auxiliary aids, services and program modifications for students with disabilities. Leads Campus initiatives promoting awareness of disability issues, accessibility and inclusion and provides technical assistance to all Campus Divisions in complying with applicable county, state, and federal laws. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

    Ensures that ACCESS maintains an accessible and inclusive environment that welcomes students with disabilities and provides them with clear information and accessible materials in various formats so they may have the tools to make important educational decisionsProvides leadership for the ACCESS staff in developing services for eligible students on a case-by-case basisRecommends learning strategies, adaptive/assistive technology, curriculum modifications and special test modifications to assist students with disabilitiesCollaborates with faculty to address program modification alternatives as well as integrate principles of universal instructional design to reduce need for exceptional aids and servicesMaintains knowledge of current adaptive/assistive technology, software as well as on-line educational materials and works with the Campus to ensure availability to studentsServes as a member of the College-wide ACCESS Committee to address college-wide issues as well as present student requests for substitutions and waiversMaintains partnership with high school transition representatives; as well as, partnerships with community agencies that provide resources or opportunities for students with disabilitiesServes on Campus and College committeesMakes recommendations and implements College policies, procedures and guidelinesProvides training opportunities for employees

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, psychology or other related field and three (3) years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology or other related field and seven (7) years related experience
  • All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures; thoroughly versed in District Procedures for Students with Disabilities
  • Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA (American Disabilities Act)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility; as well as, current accessible technology, software and apps within Apple universal access features
  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions for reporting purposes
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including day, evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
