RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Design and Technology area of the School of Theatre, Television, and Film is seeking an Assistant Professor of Theatre with a specialization in Technical Direction. Primary duties will include teaching lower division, upper division, and graduate courses in a wide range of topics which could include Technical Direction, Rigging, Structural Engineering, Welding, Specialized Fabrication, Practicum in Production, and Stage Automation. The faculty member will mentor and supervise students in Technical Direction as part of the School’s theatre season, collaborating with colleagues in theatre, television, film, dance, and music, and with advanced undergraduate and graduate students from the Design and Technology areas. Focus on teaching safe practices in the production process is highly valued. Theatre Production staff currently includes a Scene Shop Supervisor, Properties Master/Scenic Charge Artist, and a Lighting/Sound/Projections Supervisor.

The successful candidate will have a substantial and demonstrated record of professional Technical Direction experience and will be expected to maintain a trajectory of professional growth and/or creative activity. Other responsibilities include recruiting and promoting the School on local and national levels and providing service to the university and professional community. This position participates in production/design meetings as a full member of the collaborative artistic team and attends Technical Rehearsals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Terminal degree required in Technical Direction, Design and Technology, Stage Automation, or a related field. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in production for professional entertainment and preferably a minimum of two years of university-level teaching experience in technical direction.

We are seeking a cutting-edge professional dedicated to mentorship with the vision to develop and grow a strong undergraduate and a nationally recognized MFA program. The chosen candidate will join a nationally recognized faculty in Design and Technology and will serve as the mentor and principal instructor for the Technical Direction/Automation students in the MFA in Design and Technology program. The successful candidate has experience with the assignment, instruction, and operation of production running crews, safety policy, and production budgeting.

The candidate’s primary experience must be in technical direction for theatre. A secondary area of expertise is desirable, which might include: Stage Automation, Themed Entertainment production, Project Management, software and technology for theatrical production, Production Management or related fields.
