The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Engineering at NC State University. The department actively contributes to the academic, research and extension missions of the University.

Essential Job Duties

This faculty position will focus in the areas of environmental and ecological engineering. The successful candidate will teach courses across the curriculum in both the ABET-accredited Biological Engineering (BE) degree program and the Agricultural & Environmental Technology (AET) degree program. Potential courses include hydrology, water management, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, geomatics, and introduction to software tools for engineering design and land management.

This position will be key to training the next generation of BE and AET graduates to fill significant future employment demands in the environmental and ecological engineering fields. The position has the potential to interface with a number of local government agencies and consulting firms in the Research Triangle Park area to better connect the BAE program to groups that hire our students. This position will have opportunities to collaborate on academic initiatives with multiple departments in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Engineering (COE).

Other Work/ResponsibilitiesMinimum Education/Experience

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline with a specific focus in ecological and/or environmental engineering. ABD Candidates who are very close to completion of their PhD degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering (or an equivalent engineering discipline) will be considered at the Instructor rank, consistent with appointment terms as specified in the governing University policy on Academic Ranks.

Departmental Required Skills

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate the potential to be recognized for distinction in teaching, the ability to develop a successful classroom teaching program, pursue appropriate scholarly activities (i.e. improvements in teaching techniques, pedagogical studies, curriculum development, curriculum analysis, mentoring undergraduate research programs, and outcomes assessment), and service-type contributions to the department, college, university and profession.

Applicants should also have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and an interest in on-line course development and instruction and a strong interest in working with both undergraduate and graduate students.
