Description

The Department of Environmental Health Sciences in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health seeks to fill an Academic Administrator/Occupational Health Researcher position for the UCLA Southern California NIOSH Education and Research Center (ERC). The Academic Administrator supports the mission of the Center and works closely with the interdisciplinary faculty, staff and students and oversees the operational components of a large federal graduate training grant, including interfacing with graduate students, participating departments, program directors, external partners, and the federal sponsor. The Academic Administrator is responsible for administrative oversight, and participates in designing and implementing academic and professional training program and communication activities supporting the Center goals.

The mission of the NIOSH-funded Southern California ERC is to educate professionals in the fields of occupational epidemiology, occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, and occupational health nursing through academic programs and continuing education; conducting research in occupational health and safety and related areas; providing outreach and resources to educational and professional organizations; and by educating non-academic stakeholders including business, labor, and vulnerable worker populations.

Reporting to the Center Director, the Academic Administrator serves as Center Manager/Assistant Director and provides research support, administrative and interdisciplinary academic project coordination, program planning and evaluation, liaison with funding agencies and professional organizations, and fiscal planning support. In collaboration with the Center Director, Program Directors, and other faculty, the incumbent participates in interdisciplinary curriculum development, teaching, grant writing, program evaluation, report preparation, research training, and in all stages of epidemiological research on the physical, chemical, and psychosocial determinants of work-related disease, injury and associated disability. A doctoral degree in epidemiology, nursing, occupational health and safety, social sciences, psychology, public health, or related field, knowledge of theory and practice of occupational health and safety, and experience in grant proposal writing and epidemiological research are required.

UCLA welcomes and encourages diversity and seeks applications and nominations from individuals of diverse backgrounds. Individuals with a history of mentoring students from underrepresented groups and those with a commitment to supporting diversity and equal opportunity in education, research and creative activity are invited to apply.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree at the time of appointment and all application materials must be submitted via UCLA Academic Recruit (https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF04973).
