The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank. The candidate will hold an appointment in the Department of Public Policy and the Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Priority will be given to candidates with research and professional experience focusing on entrepreneurship/innovation and/or social entrepreneurship/innovation with a capacity to stimulate interdisciplinary research collaboration, teaching and mentoring. The selected candidate will maintain an active program of research and teach courses in Public Policy and the Shuford Program.

Public Policy (https://publicpolicy.unc.edu/) is an academic department within the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS). The Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship is an interdisciplinary program affiliated with the UNC Department of Economics. It is the only Entrepreneurship program in the nation housed within a College of Arts and Sciences. Public Policy and Shuford collaborate on efforts in innovation and entrepreneurship across the College and provides interdisciplinary, immersive, and experiential learning opportunities students. This is a new position that will align with the University’s broader entrepreneurial ecosystem (https://innovate.unc.edu/).

Educational Requirements

Ph.D. in public policy, business, mananagement, organizational behavior or related professional and social science disciplines.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have research interests and professional experience in one or more of the following areas: Entrepreneurship/Innovation; Social Entrepreneurship/Socially Responsible Business/Social Innovation; Strategic Management or Organizational Behavior; Business Ethics; Negotiation; Impact Investing or Cross-sectoral (public, private, non-profit) partnerships.
Additional requirements: at ease teaching in both large (100-400 student) and small classroom environments and in working as a co-intructor with a professor of the practice; embraces using more progressive and innovative approaches to teaching such as the flipped classroom and experiential learning; interested in the opportunity to collaborate across academic units and serve as a leader in modeling how this role can be effective; capable of and interested in working with Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs), Social Entrepreneur-in-Residence (SEIR), and Professors of the Practice on developing, evaluating and implementing curriculum; interested in pursuing research that advances knowledge on the intersection between public policy and entrepreneurship.

    Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. Carolina is about 30 miles from the state capital, Raleigh, and 20 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

    Sports and athletic programs: UNC is an NCAA Division I school with 28 varsity teams. The MetaLab oversees the development of SunSITE, one of the world's busiest digital library and electronic publishing projects.

    Students may open e-mail accounts, and many use campus computer resources to construct personal Web pages. Students in residence halls have hardwired network connections to the Internet and cable television in their rooms. At the ATN Training center, students may take classes on software packages and utilities. Computer labs are available for student use all over campus.

    Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
