Description: The Department of Kinesiology & Community Health (http://kch.illinois.edu) in the College of Applied Health Sciences (http://ahs.illinois.edu) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (http://illinois.edu) is seeking outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Exercise Psychology, Public Health or related field. Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate students. Conduct research in area of Exercise Psychology, provide service to Department, University and professional community. Full-time position. The Department of Kinesiology and Community Health is an interdisciplinary unit dedicated to the study of health, rehabilitation, and human movement. The advancement and dissemination of knowledge related to health, rehabilitation, and human movement is central to the Department’s mission. Faculty in the Department utilize a broad variety of approaches in the integrative study of health, rehabilitation, and human movement, including research themes such as lifespan physical activity, community health, rehabilitation counseling, disability, well-being and inclusion, physical culture and education, pedagogy, human factors, and human performance. The National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK) recently ranked the University of Illinois as #1 in the nation among kinesiology doctoral programs.
The Department also has a long and esteemed history in sport and exercise psychology, most recently focused on the study of physical activity and health outcomes across the lifespan, among healthy individuals as well as those with various illnesses and disease (e.g., cancer, hypertension, multiple sclerosis, PTSD). This position is expected to advance programmatic needs in both graduate and undergraduate education and build upon existing research strengths in the Department. Research expertise will be in any number of fundable areas consistent with the priorities of major funding agencies (e.g., AHA, CDC, DoD, NIH, NSF, RWJF, USDA).
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is one of the original 37 public land-grant institutions created after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Morrill Act in 1862. The university is in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana (total population 207,000) in east-central Illinois. Situated about 140 miles south of Chicago, 125 miles west of Indianapolis, and 180 miles northeast of St. Louis, the Champaign-Urbana area has tremendous cultural resources.
