The University of California, Irvine Libraries seeks an energetic, creative, knowledgeable, and user-oriented librarian for the position of Data Curation Librarian. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading innovation in the Libraries' collaborative efforts to provide data services to researchers in all disciplines.

Scope of the position
The Data Curation Librarian is responsible for providing support and expertise to faculty, students, and researchers engaged in research data management planning, data acquisition, data sharing, and long-term data preservation and stewardship. This position will support data practices in a wide variety of disciplines, as well as supporting the library's own data curation initiatives. This position will be responsible for continuing the leadership of collaborative efforts to create a campus-wide data management and curation program. In this forward-facing and highly-collaborative position, the Data Curation Librarian draws on a broad knowledge of research data management and stewardship, disciplinary data practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to monitor and creatively respond to emerging researcher data needs. The Data Curation Librarian will help the Libraries explore the potential of expanding our offerings in the areas of GIS support, research design, and data analysis. This position will consult with stakeholders in the development of on-demand data services. The Data Curation Librarian reports to the Head of Digital Scholarship Services and collaborates with colleagues across the Libraries, the broader UCI community, and serves on University of California system-wide teams.
The Digital Scholarship Services Department
The Digital Scholarship Services Department, which currently includes four librarians and one programmer analyst, collaborates with UCI faculty members, students, and administrators to transform research and scholarly communication using new media and digital technologies. Digital Scholarship Services manages content, infrastructure, and user interfaces for all stages of the research lifecycle, including research planning, execution, dissemination, discovery, preservation, and impact. Librarians periodically receive administrative and peer review for merit increases based on the following criteria: 1) professional competence and quality of service within the Library; 2) professional activity outside the Library; 3) university and public service; and 4) research and other creative activity.
Salary & Benefits: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the University of California pay scales. Appointment is anticipated to be at the Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, or Librarian rank with a salary of $55,014 - $82,045.
Librarians at UCI are academic appointees. Non-managerial librarians are represented by an exclusive bargaining agent, University Council - American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This is a represented position.
Librarians are entitled to two days per month of annual leave, thirteen paid holidays, and one day per month sick leave. The University has an excellent retirement system and offers a variety of group health, life, and disability insurance plans. Benefits are equal to approximately 45% of salary.
