Hiring Range: $33,076 - $42,423

Reporting to the Culinary and Hospitality Program Director, the Café/Catering Coordinator will be responsible for the daily operations of the Sedona Center Café and assist with campus catering needs on an on-going basis. The Sedona Center Café is a bistro style dining site and coffee house at the Yavapai College Sedona Center. This leadership position will participate in the development, implementation, marketing and ongoing growth and success of the Sedona Center Café, coffee and food sales. The Café/Catering Coordinator exemplifies and provides professional customer service that will result in a high quality experience for Sedona Center guests. Duties of the Café/Catering Coordinator include:

  • Assists and or prepares and serves quality food and beverage items for a variety of in-house customers and events
  • Could have the potential to assist with food services ranging from large catered events to small groups, including preparation, setup, service and cleanup
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, well-functioning Café maintaining a safe kitchen and food service environment
  • Organizes, supervises, coordinates and monitors the operations of the Sedona Center Café
  • Ensure that all public areas are neat and clean, and ensures food handling and service meets Serving Safe Food guidelines and Health Department License requirements
  • As the front face of the Cafe and Grab and Go dining program, ensures the Café is welcoming and supportive of customers
  • Greets customers, explains the products and programs offered at the Café and assures everyone is comfortable and feels welcome
  • Maintains safety, sanitation, care and order of work areas and equipment, including storage areas, coolers and freezers
  • Reports repair and maintenance needs to Sedona Culinary Director
  • Supports and mentors Student and Staff activity at the Sedona Center, Culinary Department and Café
  • Anticipate & acknowledge guest needs at all times
  • Maintains accurate participation records and other program documentation
  • Informs Culinary Director and or the Sedona Center Associate Dean/OLLI, of any guest complaints or concerns
  • Purchases inventory, receives deliveries by checking food and material goods against specifications, purchase order and invoices, as needed and under direction of the Culinary Director
  • Solicits and reports any Yavapai College campus, needs or wants, focusing mostly on the Sedona Center activity, in regards to catering, asked for and not limited to, the Sedona Culinary Institute, including the organization of all forms, orders and services set forth
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Cleaning Standards
  • Use, maintain & thoroughly wash, clean & sanitize all food preparation dishes, pans, surfaces, equipment, utensils & storage areas & containers; including floors, floor drains, sinks, hand sinks, walls, ceilings, counters and shelves, Clean & restock the servers line(s) on a continual basis throughout shift
  • Empty all trash receptacles and bring all trash bags to the outside dumpsters that exceed 25 pounds
  • Keep the kitchen and Café clean and free of debris at all times; including floors, walls, ceilings and all counters & shelves; regardless of where they are located in the kitchen; to ensure a clean and safe operating environment for all Team Members
  • Pick up anything on the floor that could cause an unsafe condition for anyone
  • Sweep all floors in the appropriate work area
  • Clean & sanitize all work table surfaces, equipment, utensils, and pots and pans using proper approved cleaning solutions
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices
  • Knowledge of hygiene and sanitary regulations governing the handling, preparation and serving of food
  • Knowledge of safety hazards while working with kitchen equipment and chemicals in the work environment
  • Knowledge of standard measures
  • Knowledge of report preparation and file maintenance and inventory practices
  • Knowledge of MSOffice Computer Program office suite
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job including, but not limited to a cash register, point of sale equipment and other concession devices
  • Ability to understand and practice the confidential nature of the position
  • Ability to engage and lead employees, students and or staff
  • Ability to perform high levels of customer service
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with associates and customers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, customers, volunteers and the general public

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

  • Certificate in Culinary, Hospitality or a related field
  • AZ food handler's card or ability to obtain prior to first shift
  • Serv/Safe Food Coordinators Certificate or the ability to obtain within 90 days
  • At least two years of management experience in Food Service Operations including Catering, Hospitality and Restaurant
  • At least 5 years of previous experience in a restaurant environment including knowledge of safe and effective food handling processes, inventory, cash handling and customer service practices, including Point of sales systems
  • Current valid Driver's License
  • Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confident, professional and welcoming personality
Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Associates Degree or higher in Culinary, Hospitality or a related field
  • Barista Background
  • Professional experience working in a Higher Education environment
