The millwright II maintains and troubleshoots mechanical and electrical components that operate machinery. S/he is responsible for aligning equipment with laser or dial calipers so that machinery can operate at full-potential. S/he repairs and overhauls all mechanical equipment, such as centrifugal pumps, air compressors, rotating machinery, and various kitchen equipment. S/he installs and repairs campus signs when necessary, performs metal fabrications, and performs other similar duties as assigned.

Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

- Ability to utilize technical equipment used in troubleshooting and repairs

Internal Contacts:
- Works routinely with other departments, staff, and campus administrators, including engineers, project managers, building liaisons, faculty, academic deans, and department heads
- Coordinates work activity with the maintenance staff, facility support center, and impacted building occupants to minimize disruption
- Ensures good communication regarding planned work

External Contacts:
- Coordinates occasionally with contractors required to work on campus

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift loads no greater than 50 lbs. Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and work around confined areas with piping and wiring obstructions, as needed, to access equipment. Requires moderate to heavy physical activity, including bending, stooping, climbing, balancing, standing, and walking up to eight hours per day. Occasionally required to enter utility tunnels and confined spaces.

Working Conditions

Physical Environment:
- Requires exposure to high-pressure boilers and steam piping, high voltage electricity, high noise levels, rotating and other potentially dangerous equipment
- Requires work in mechanical rooms, tunnels, labs, attics, crawl spaces, non-conditioned spaces, and dusty, dirty, and wet conditions
- Requires personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety shoes, and safety glasses

Work Hours and Travel:
- After hours work may be required or other work outside the regular schedule may be needed.
- This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to report to campus, provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency
- Available on a continuous “on call” basis for response to problems and emergencies that affect campus operations
- Requires periodic travel to classes, conferences, and vendor sites as needed

- Troubleshoots & repairs the following: centrifugal pumps, such as sump pumps, hot water and chilled water pumps, and condensate pumps, including installation of mechanical shaft seals, air compressors, rotating machinery, such as fans, blowers, and air handlers, medical/lab air compressors and lab vacuum systems
- Ensures machinery operates to full potential
- Makes repairs to kitchen equipment such as; dishwashers, ovens, conveyors and laundry equipment
- Replaces or repairs valves such as gate, check, globe, etc. where needed
- Performs metal fabrication and makes weld repairs
- Installs and repairs campus signs
- Performs precision coupling alignment
- Supervises maintenance assistants and temporary personnel as needed
- Performs all other duties as assigned
