Accounting Assistant, Senior

DescriptionThe Office of Student Accounts is seeking to recruit a Senior Accounting Assistant to perform advanced clerical accounting functions, such as maintaining, processing, and auditing accounting transactions, correspondence, checks, files, and information systems


Example of duties include:

  • Determine steps necessary to process journal entries for Accounts Receivable invoice payments in accordance with university policy and procedures. Prepare journal vouchers and post transactions to Banner and Spectrum.  Maintain the daily check log by accurately entering paper checks received daily and delivering them to the Cashier Window for processing.  Review accounts daily to ensure payments were posted correctly.  Collaborate and provide follow-up with responsible parties for resolution of reconciling items or processing problems.

  • Extract data from various accounting and related fiscal and information system data bases (e.g. Banner, Spectrum) as well as internal databases. Develop and maintain spreadsheets which are used to reconcile accounting transactions and provide statistical data to assist supervisor in decision making. Assist with month end and year end processing including spreadsheets, accruals and other duties.

  • Manage the daily operations and workflow of all Accounts Receivable records processing for document imaging from beginning to end.  This includes understanding each Student Account unit’s workflow and procedures and also receiving, coding, scanning, and indexing all Accounts Receivable documents (i.e. third party billing authorizations/invoices, detail/program deposit code requests, delinquent balance payment plans, petitions, etc.).  Develop, maintain, and update written procedures and training documentation.

  • Handle and/or route and document inbound departmental emails. Acts as a liaison between Student Accounts and internal departmental customers to resolve issues related to the accounting set up for Banner detail codes, program deposits, departmental payment request, and other Accounts Receivable issues. Serves as front-line person at the Student Account window to assist all walk-in customers.



QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
