Job Details
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or closely related field. Must be able to demonstrate the Morton College core values of truth, compassion, fairness, responsibility, respect, and tolerance.
Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in chemistry or closely related field. Experience working in a laboratory setting.
Job SummaryProvide support services for the chemistry and biology program. Work closely with the Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences, the Chair of the Sciences Department, and the full-time and part-time science faculty, to prepare reagents and supplies for laboratory experiments. Order supplies and maintain inventory. Maintain a safe environment for laboratory instruction, and train faculty in the College’s chemical hygiene and safety program. Perform minor, periodic maintenance on instrumentation, and arrange for service calls when necessary. Aid faculty in organizing semester schedule of laboratory experiments. Works directly for the Dean’s office as necessary and other duties as assigned. Flexible work Schedule: 15 to 19 hours per week. May be required to work some evenings and weekends.
Specific Job Duties•Ordering of reagents and supplies
•Preparation of reagents and unknowns
•Set up labs and demonstrations for chemistry
•Prep labs in biology as needed
•Maintain instrumentation including an FTIR and a GC
•Train faculty on the use of various instruments
•Testing of new labs and demonstrations for inclusion into the chemistry curriculum
•Provide safety training to new and adjunct faculty
•Maintain lab and stockroom in a clean and orderly fashion
•Track and prepare chemical waste for disposal
•Perform laboratory inventory and control
