Job Details

The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the University of Denvers Learn to Swim program and will report directly to the Assistant Director of Aquatics. The position is responsible for achieving the Learn to Swim budget, facilitating the Learn to Swim registration process, scheduling employees, developing relationships with participants and parents and providing feedback and recommendations for the Learn to Swim program.

The Aquatics Coordinator is a team member within the University of Denvers Division of Athletics & Recreation and should always reflect the University of Denver and its Aquatics program in a positive light.

(Maximum 20 hours/week, additional hour requests must be submitted to the Assistant Director of Aquatics and approved prior to working)

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for achieving annual Learn to Swim registration goals and ensuring all Learn to Swim accounts are paid in full.
  • Develop Learn to Swim lesson schedule for each series and submit to the Business Operations Manager for input into Rectrac. Submit schedule adjustments as needed throughout the registration process.
  • Assist families with the Learn to Swim registration process (online, phone, or in person).
  • Respond to all new Learn to Swim inquiries and current parent/participant feedback, comments and questions. Coordinate responses with the Assistant Director of Aquatics as needed.
  • Coordinate Learn to Swim and Pre-Team registration for swimmers following the annual Hilltoppers Swim Clinic.
  • Assist with Learn to Swim instructor recruitment and interviews. Provide hiring recommendations to the Assistant Director of Aquatics.
  • Assist with Learn to Swim instructor new hire and continued training sessions.
  • Schedule instructors for all Learn to Swim lessons in SubItUp and ensure all shifts are covered.
  • Provide evaluations of Learn to Swim instructor performance to the Assistant Director of Aquatics two times per year using department approved evaluation templates and schedules.
  • Recommend and coordinate purchases for the Learn to Swim program with the Assistant Director of Aquatics.
  • Provide on-site supervision for Learn to Swim as scheduled.
  • Ensure Learn to Swim instructors complete and provide participant evaluation cards to all Learn to Swim participants prior to the end of each series.
  • Regularly interact with Learn to Swim participants and parents. Communicate program updates and changes as needed (phone, email, or in person).
  • Attend scheduled aquatics and/or Learn to Swim meetings as requested.
  • Utilize the email account for all Learn to Swim related inquiries and program communication.
  • Act as Aquatics "Front Desk" to assist those looking for any Aquatic Program assistance.
  • Assist in other aquatic programs as needed or requested.

Required Qualifications

  • Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid Certified
  • Experience teaching Swim Lessons
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

Work Schedule

The Aquatics Coordinator will develop his/her weekly schedule with the Assistant Director of Aquatics. Any deviations from the approved schedule must be communicated to the Assistant Director of Aquatics and any additional hours approved prior to commencing. All work must be completed at the Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness within its business hours unless otherwise approved.
