Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

University of South Carolina seeks an organized, self-motivated and collaborative librarian to coordinate a comprehensive and strategic assessment program for University Libraries. This individual will implement projects that generate useful data about library collections, services and spaces to inform decision making and measure progress towards strategic goals. The Assessment Librarian chairs a team dedicated to evaluating library collections, services and spaces in order to measure impact, monitor trends, and improve the experience of users. This position provides guidance and expertise to colleagues in evaluation and measurement of library activities; communicates results in effective manner through reports, presentations and other methods to internal and external audiences; and leads the collection, storage, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data about the libraries. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Public Services.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution or comparable degree in related field. Demonstrable professional assessment experience; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work successfully with colleagues; and experience working in libraries.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an academic library or research institution; outstanding analytical skills; project leadership experience in a team-oriented environment; familiarity with assessment software and statistical tools such as NVivo or SPSS; current knowledge of assessment issues/trends for academic libraries; and at least 2 years professional experience in a library setting.
