Overview

The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) seeks a senior technology support specialist to support the SEAS Manager of IT Operations. The senior tech support specialist assists in the day-to-day management of the technology needs of the school's faculty and staff, classrooms and computer labs, and event spaces that support the Dean's office and various centers. The tech specialist needs to be familiar with numerous technology systems, comfortable providing hands-on technical support, and have a customer-focused mentality. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of constituencies, have a problem-solving mindset, and be able to handle multiple competing priorities simultaneously and smoothly.

Responsibilities

Computing & Technology Support: Provides technology support to the faculty, staff, students, and visitors in the SEAS Dean's Office, Keller Center, Andlinger Center for Energy & the Environment, and Center for Information Technology Policy. Supports, maintains, and troubleshoots technical issues (desktop, laptop, printers, mobile devices). Provides software support for a suite of products. Provides guidance on technology purchases and installations, and able to configure technology for operation on campus. Provides technical guidance and setup for classroom lab space computers as needed. Provides technical support to conference rooms, some complex, as well as configuring often times complex travel computing needs for the Dean, faculty, and staff.

 

System and Inventory Maintenance: Assists in the support of the Rockwell Factory Talk system to monitor nitrogen gas metering throughout various engineering buildings. Repairs and replaces hardware on out-of-warranty computers and devices not covered by OIT hardware support. Prepares and manages data wipe and surplus outdated systems and devices. Configures and maintains SEAS-managed computer clusters.

 

Audio/Visual and Event Support: Provides audio/visual support for meetings, conferences, symposiums, and large events hosted in the School of Engineering and Applied Science spaces, sometimes after regular business hours. Maintain hardware and software in various meeting spaces, provide technical guidance to event coordinators and meeting planners, provide day-of-event services for organizing presentation materials and other related tasks. Train users on the use of technology in various meeting locations, including how to connect to technology using personal resources, Barco Clickshare device, Apple TV and wired connections. Support the use of videoconferencing technology in various conference rooms.

Qualifications

Required: 

-Associates or other 2-year degree

-4-6 years of previous work experience

-Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and quickly shift among competing priorities

-Customer service experience, superior interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a broad array of people

-Superior computer and software skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly

-Knowledge of audio-visual and video conference technologies and services

-Strong experience in a variety of MS Windows and Apple hardware/software, administration, maintenance, and support of the following operating systems: MS Windows (XP to 10), Mac OSX (up to 10.14) and Windows Server

-Must be able to lift 50lbs., climb stairs, twist, bend and work in physically awkward positions

-Occasional after hours and weekends for special events

 

Preferred:

-Bachelors degree

-Experience in an academic environment

-Familiarity with Princeton University campus resources, computing systems, and culture
