Supporting the Jesuit mission of the institution, the Office of Residence Life houses and educates 2,600 residents in five regions that consist of 550-800 residents differentiated by academic class year. The Area Coordinator (AC) is responsible for the daily operation of a region of residence halls for The University of Scranton. The AC supports our Jesuit mission by intentionally creating programs, processes, and relationships that support the identified learning outcomes for her or his region.

This position requires the staff member to live on campus in an apartment provided by the University.

Essential Duties:

- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a staff of 12-26 Resident Assistants, including one Head Resident Assistant

- Serve as one of five ACs in a rotating duty schedule for the calendar year to respond to campus emergencies and student crises

- Facilitate interventions with students to support academic, social, and personal development

- Create, implement and support activities/events that permit students to achieve identified learning outcomes for the region’s resident population

- Serve as a case officer for the Office of Student Conduct to facilitate educational conferences

- Educate students about University and department policies, procedures, and regulations

- Support department initiatives of creating and facilitating assessments of learning by residents

- Support students by mediating conflicts between roommates and/or members of a residential community

- Assist with facilitation of room assignment changes

- Communicate with students, parents, and other campus departments in a timely and effective manner in person, by phone, and via e-mail

- Administer region budget by managing purchasing cards, approving and assigning expenditures, and reconciling monthly statements

Additional Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree is required; Master’s Degree is preferred

Two years of professional or full-time graduate experience in residence life is required including working with residence hall management, student supervision and leadership, student affairs, or customer service

Schedule:

Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Serve on a rotating on-call schedule. Additional hours as requested.
