Assistant/Associate Professor - Peter Munk Chair in Aortic Disease Research
Job FieldThe Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at University Health Network (UHN) is inviting applications for the Peter Munk Chair in Aortic Disease Research. This appointment is for a 5 year term, renewable once. The effective date of this appointment is the fall of 2014.
The Chair will be at the forefront of basic research in atherosclerotic, aneurysmal, connective tissue and / or inflammatory disorders of the aorta, and will lead the Peter Munk Centre of Excellence in Aortic Disease.
The mandate of the Chair, who will work in collaboration with clinicians and scientists in the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, is to deepen our understanding of the molecular pathobiology of diseases of the aorta and to translate this new knowledge into therapeutic options for patients with aortic disease. The network of scientists, advanced research infrastructure and access to the large volume of patients with aortic pathology at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre will help the Chair realize these goals. The Chair may be held by a basic scientist, pathologist, cardiovascular or medical imaging clinician.
The successful candidate will have an established excellent record of research in aortic disease, and will hold an MD and / or PhD degree, or equivalent. Physician applicants should be eligible for appointment at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or its equivalent, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
UHN is comprised of the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and is one of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. UHN is an academic institution affiliated with the University of Toronto and is recognized internationally for excellence in patient care, innovation, research and education. The Division of Vascular Surgery is comprised of 7 full-time clinical faculty members, within multiple UHN Programs, offering clinical care in the areas of diseases of the aorta.
The successful candidate will be supported by multiple sources of funding including the $3,000,000 Peter Munk Chair in Aortic Disease Research, which is expendable over 10 years. Salary will be between the range of $250,000 - $400,000, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
