Job Field The Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children is seeking a full time academic paediatric orthopaedic surgeon to join our growing faculty.

The effective date of this appointment is July 1, 2014.

Responsibilities include full clinical orthopaedic practice, research, and education, and administrative responsibilities as required. The clinical component of the position will include a substantial commitment to the care of children with cerebral palsy including comprehensive operative care of all lower extremity problems encountered in this population. Ability to manage cerebral palsy spinal deformity operatively will be favourably considered but is not essential. Outpatient clinics will be run at Holland Bloorview Kid’s Rehabilitation Hospital which also houses a state of the art motion lab for gait analysis. Other clinical duties include participation in the emergency call schedule at SickKids. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.

The successful candidate should be able to develop an international reputation with effective collaborations at the hospital, provincial, national and international level. The candidate should be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Academic potential will be considered across the fields of research, educational scholarship, and creative professional activity and innovation. Suitably qualified individuals are strongly encouraged to seek cross appointment within the SickKids Research Institute, and within graduate departments of the University of Toronto.

Dedicated exclusively to children and their families, The Hospital for Sick Children is among the largest children’s hospitals in North America and has a long history of excellence in clinical care, research, and education. It is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is located adjacent to the University campus and to numerous specialty hospitals and biomedical research institutes. Our division comprises seven full time and three part time academic surgeons, five fellows, and residents. We are well supported by dedicated nurses, therapists, practitioners, technologists, and administrative staff. The Holland Bloorview is an internationally renowned university affiliated academic pediatric rehabilitation centre located 15 minutes drive from SickKids.

Salary will be between the range of $196,867 - $470,000 as well as commensurate with qualifications and experience.
