Job FieldApplications are invited for the position of Cardiac Surgeon-Scientist, Division of Cardiac Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital, a fully affiliated hospital with the University of Toronto. St. Michael’s Hospital is located in downtown Toronto, providing primary, secondary and tertiary surgical for Toronto and surrounding region.

The Division of Cardiac Surgery currently performs over 1100 adult cardiac surgery operations yearly, and has an active program in open, endovascular and hybrid aortic surgery, in addition to performing approximately 70 TAVI’s annually. The Division has an active research program in the area of basic and translational cardiovascular biology, and participates in various national and international clinical trials. The Division is also consistently ranked highly as a premier teaching institution for residents and fellows.

The successful candidate should be a recently graduated adult cardiac surgeon; highly proficient across the entire adult cardiac surgery spectrum with objective evidence of excellent clinical outcomes; have the abilities and interest in establishing a successful clinical program in minimally invasive valve surgery.

Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record of success in research in cardiovascular biology as evidenced by publications of peer-reviewed articles and success in achieving grant support from CIHR, HSF, NIH or other reputed funding organizations; candidate must have a PhD in an area of research related to cardiac surgery or other closely associated discipline.

The candidate must hold a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Cardiac Surgery or its equivalent. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will be in the range of $196,867-$400,000+.

The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for October 1, 2014.
