Job FieldThe Department of Surgery Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) is inviting applications for a permanent full-time position in the Division of Cardiac Surgery.

We seek a full-time faculty cardiac surgeon with advanced fellowship training in either minimally invasive cardiac surgery or complex aortic reconstructive surgery. Additional training in structural heart/transcatheter valve interventions is a significant asset.

The successful candidate will possess a strong track record and graduate-level training in a relevant area of research. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. Clinically, the successful candidate will provide advanced cardiac surgical care and join a division of 4 cardiac surgeons within the Schulich Heart Centre working in concert with a strong multidisciplinary team. The Division performs approximately 600 open procedures per year and has one of the most advanced Structural Heart programs in Canada, with over 130 percutaneous aortic and 45 percutaneous mitral cases per annum. As one of the largest cardiac care centres in Ontario with over 7,000 surgical, catheterization, angioplasty, and pacemaker cases per year, the Schulich Heart Centre has a proven history of innovation and clinical excellence.

The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or above at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for Jul. 1, 2019.

SHSC is one of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. SHSC is a fully affiliated academic health sciences facility of the University of Toronto and the home to one of the University’s three Academies for undergraduate education. SHSC has an international reputation for clinical excellence and research, and is an acknowledged academic leader. The Sunnybrook Research Institute hosts well established programs in basic, applied, and clinical research occupying over 250,000 sq.ft. of state-of-the-art infrastructure with annual peer review grant support of $75M.

Total remuneration will be in the range of $450,000-$750,000, based on fee for service, qualifications and experience.
