Job FieldThe Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking to recruit up to two qualified academic emergency medicine physicians with academic position descriptions of Clinician Scientists to a maximum of two full-time positions. Successful candidates would be hired through two fully-affiliated Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network hospitals: St. Michael’s Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Successful candidates must be eligible for a Full-Time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The effective start date of the appointments is November 1, 2019 or as soon as possible.

These individuals will support emergency medicine clinical needs in addition to participating fully in the research programs in emergency medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the University of Toronto. The successful candidates will collaborate in educational and quality improvement programs.

The successful candidates will be committed to a career in emergency medicine. The individuals should be emerging or established research leaders and be able to demonstrate excellence in academic research. Applicants must have evidence of a strong publication record in leading journals, as well as holding competitive external operating and research grants, successful teaching engagements and supervision, and evidence of established academic engagement. Academic excellence may also be demonstrated by the presence of research nominations and awards, presentations at significant conferences, and creative professional activity with evident impact and renown. Advanced training and evidence of scholarship in their area of research is a requirement for appointment at professorial rank.

Successful candidates must hold an MD degree, be eligible for certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Emergency Medicine, and have, or be eligible for licensure in Ontario.

Estimated remuneration will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
