About College for Kids:

Since 1980, Parkland College’s College for Kids (CFK) has provided area youth with challenging, enriching and safe experiences designed to ignite a lifelong desire for learning.College for Kids provides the opportunity for students entering ages 8-13 years to explore areas of study and interest in a non-graded, fun-filled environment through quality, hands-on experiences. College for Kids 2020 Sessions:

Mandatory Orientation for instructorsThursday, June 4, 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

Session I(M-Th) June 15-25, 12:45 –2:45 pm

(M-Th) June 15-25, 3:00 – 5:00 pm

Session II(M-Th) July 6-16, 12:45 – 2:45 pm

(M-Th) July 6-16, 3:00 – 5:00 pm

Program Goals:

Summer CFK programs are designed to attain the following goals:

·Provide hands-on explorations in specialized fields such as science, math, language arts, computer science, technology, humanities and fine arts.

·Provide challenging experiences and intellectual stimulation that develop students’ special interests.

·Expose students to a learning atmosphere that will motivate them to achieve their highest potential.

Essential Job Functions:

·Submit complete daily lesson plans, course syllabus, supply list and budget by established deadlines.

·Commit to teach during the ENTIRE CLASS TIME on the 8 days of the session.

·Attend mandatory CFK Staff Orientation on Thursday, June 4, 2020.

·Maintain high standard of teaching and learning in classroom.

·Actively engage all students in learning each day.

·Responsible for classroom management.

Hiring is contingent upon the course meeting the minimum class size.

Instructors are paid for 16 instructional hours per class. Salary is dependent upon qualifications.


**Applicants are required to submit complete a proposal for each class s/he wishes to teach.Please attach your course proposal as a PDF.

Proposals should include the following:

·Instructor’s Name and current contact information, including a valid email address.

·Course title and description.

·Course objectives and goals and an explanation of how these will be met.

·Appropriate ages grade level for the proposed course (e.g. 8-11, 8-13, 11-13 years, etc.)

·Preferred session and class time.

Applicants are encouraged to submit course proposals that will engage students in technology, math, science, engineering, and fine and visual arts, but are not limited to these topics.Specifically, proposals in the following areas will be given consideration:coding, app invention, robotics, electronic art with Arduinos; graphic design; introduction to invention; music composition; painting; printmaking; introduction to medicine and medical careers; geocaching, orienteering and map making; science (chemistry, physics, etc.), introduction to languages and/or cultural studies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the proposed area.
  • Two or more years’ experience in education (teaching) or related field; experience teaching children ages eight (8) through thirteen (13) years old preferred.
  • Patience when working with children.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • A professional attitude and the ability to work with others.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to commit to attending the mandatory Instructor Orientation on Thursday, June 4, 2020, from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm.
  • Ability to commit to the full session for which one is applying. All classes are contingent upon meeting minimum enrollment. CFK sessions meet during the following times.Please note that Parkland College is closed on Fridays.
