Position Description: Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) is the chief administrative officer responsible for student services and programs. Serving as a member of the President's Executive Team, the VPSA participates in all aspects of campus-wide planning and support of the mission and goals of the University and plays a vital role in creating and maintaining a no-barrier campus environment for students through excellent student services and programs.

The VPSA provides executive vision and leadership for the Division of Student Affairs, its 325 employees, and $38 million annual operating budget. The Division provides high-quality services that contribute to the academic and personal success of CSULB's students by focusing on their needs outside of the classroom. By operating under the framework of putting students first, the Division collaborates with students, staff, faculty, and community partners to assist students in achieving their educational goals of a highly-valued degree, preparation for graduate and professional studies, employment, and responsible citizenship. With more than 30 departments and programs, the Division provides a wide array of services. These range from student health and wellness-related, including the Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the Student Emergency Intervention and Wellness Program, to programs serving students from traditionally underserved communities, such as the Educational Opportunity Program, Dream Success Center, and Office of Multicultural Affairs, as well as Housing and Residential Life and Associated Students, Inc. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: A proven track record encompassing:

Strategic planning in academic environments, managing complex organizational structures, project planning, budgeting, and success leading transformational change.
Effective collaborative leadership style that incorporates organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills with strong change management, project management, and team-building skills, as well as an ability to foster partnerships with community leaders, state agencies and campus auxiliaries.
Proven ability to recruit and retain well-performing professionals, empower them to succeed, and develop their talents and expertise so they are able to assume expanded responsibilities.
Demonstrated adeptness at working successfully in a shared governance/shared responsibility environment and proven inclusive leadership required in a California public university system with a diverse and unionized workforce.
Committed to inclusive excellence and diversity.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Education and Experience: A graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Proven track record as a senior leader encompassing strategic planning in academic environments, managing complex organizational structures, project planning, budgeting, and process transformation.

Background: Due to the nature of this position, current CSULB employees are subject to a criminal record check unless they have successfully completed a criminal background check through CSULB within the past 12 months.

Conflict of Interest: The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.

General Information: The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

All management and executive employees shall be required to provide a written statement to the appropriate administrator of any and all outside employment. Employees shall also provide a written statement of outside employment if a written request by an administrator is made.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
