Position Summary:

The College of Agriculture, Arkansas State University-Jonesboro, invites applications for a nine-month appointment as a tenure-track assistant professor with an anticipated start date of August 2020. We are seeking an outstanding individual with expertise in the area of animal science. The nine-month appointment is in support of academic programs, scholarly activities, and service. The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to: teaching and student learning assessment at all university levels; development of an impactful applied research program; and university/community service.

Duties & Responsibilities:

    The appointment is a teaching (75%) position (9 credit hours per semester) with an applied research (25%) componentTeaching responsibilities may include undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of animal production, animal physiology, reproductive physiology, animal breeding and genetics, and animal behavior and welfareThe successful candidate will develop an applied research program in their area of expertise, secure extramural funding, mentor thesis–level graduate students, and publish results in high quality scientific journalsService and leadership activities with professional societies is encouraged, while service on departmental, college, and/or university committees is requiredThe faculty member will have undergraduate recruiting and retention responsibilities for students in the Animal Science majorPossibilities exist for summer salary support through summer teaching, research collaborations, and extramural fundingThe office of Research and Technology Transfer is available to assist with grant applications and other extramural funding opportunitiesOther duties as assigned


Applicants must have expertise in the areas of livestock or poultry production and management, animal physiology, and reproductive physiology

Applicants must have demonstrated: strong verbal and written skills in English; interest and desire to interact with the regional agriculture community; and potential for high quality teaching, applied research, and scholarship

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance


Opportunities may exist for collaboration with area livestock and poultry producers as well as faculty in the A-State College of Sciences and Mathematics, the Arkansas Biosciences Institute, and the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture

Minimum Qualifications:

The College of Agriculture seeks an individual with an earned Ph.D. in Animal Science, a D.V.M. with research experience, or a closely related field. Candidates near degree completion of the Ph.D. (ABD) may be considered

Preferred Qualifications (Strong candidates will have):

Expertise in regionally relevant livestock and poultry production
Experience working with FFA/4-H and collegiate student organizations
Experience teaching in both lecture and laboratory settings
Experience in collaborative research settings
A track record of grant writing and journal publication success
