Position Summary:

Arkansas State University is in the early development stages of face-to-face undergraduate program in occupational and environmental safety and health. The person will be responsible for designing and developing courses to be offered in this new degree as it progresses forward in the planning process. The position would be full- time over 12 months.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The ideal applicant would be willing to help build the program/curriculum for approval at university, state, and accreditation levels. As the program evolves, teaching, research and service to their respective profession and community will be expected. This program will reside in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. This is not a remote teaching position, and the successful candidate will be expected to hold regular on-campus office hours Monday through Friday.


Knowledge in research, teaching, and/or professional experience in one or more of the following areas or disciplines: occupational health, occupational safety, environmental health, public health, risk management, and/or industrial hygiene. Some knowledge of the accreditation process would be valuable.

Essential skills include computer/technology, or possess the ability to easily obtain needed skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Ability to partake in research and scholarship, work in Microsoft Office, Blackboard Learn and/or other Learning Management Systems (LMS), and a variety of other WEB based programs.

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Master's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a directly related degree from a regionally accredited institution (Doctoral Degree preferred). A record of teaching and research, or the experience necessary for work in research and teaching must be demonstrated.

Current certification as either:

Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) offered by the Institute for Safety and Health Management, and/or
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) offered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and/or
Certified Industrial Hygienist offered by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene
