Position SummaryPOSITION SUMMARY
Oversees the day-to-day administration of the JJC Disability Services Office, which includes overseeing direct services to students and community members who qualify under Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. Provides leadership, direction, and services for students with disabilities that support the active engagement and retention of students. Ensures comprehensive services to students with disabilities in collaboration with faculty, staff and administration. Provides strategic leadership in drafting procedures to align with current institutional policies that impact students with disabilities. Oversees compliance with state and federal regulations, developing and conducting campus-wide education and training to increase awareness of disability-related issues, as well as develops strategic planning for the program. Fosters community relationships and provides education that supports accessibility and inclusion for individuals with disabilities. Provides leadership to the department’s staff, collaborates with campus leaders and senior leadership to align with the department and the college’s mission, vision and strategic goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Serve as the lead content expert in the policy interpretation and administration of Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.
2.Responsible for Disability Services student records, documentation, data and information with strict attention to confidentiality in accordance with Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) , the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, and other related regulations.
3.Maintain institutional data on student with disabilities to provide information for federal and state reporting and to support and evaluate student success and SEM initiatives.
4.Support the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of all staff assigned to the department. This may include grant and/or contractual staff.
5.Manage the Disability Services budget (institutional and/or grant); respond to immediate fiscal needs, and identify long-term goals.
6.Remain competent and aware of industry trends to adjust the departmental procedures and properly maintain and adjust the budget as needed.
7.Develop and maintain programs to increase student matriculation, retention and graduation of students with disabilities which align with SEM.
8.Oversee departmental programs that intentionally support the personal, academic, and social development of students with disabilities.
9.Establish and maintain partnerships with District 525 Transition Program coordinators, Special Education administrators and social service agencies to create a smooth pathway for students with disabilities.
10.Lead and implement diversity activities/initiatives campus-wide and throughout the JJC community related to the intersectionality of disability and other vulnerable statuses.
11.Appropriately document compliance complaints to lessen liabilities and prepare the institution for potential Office of Civil Rights complaints and investigations.
12.Collaborate with departments that report to the Dean of Academic Intervention and Support, the Dean of Enrollment Management, and the Dean of Students.
13.Perform related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.Bachelor’s Degree.
2.Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with student with disabilities.
3.Comprehensive knowledge of Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Master’s Degree in Sociology, Law, Leadership, Disability Studies or related field.
2.Three (3) years of successful teaching experience, law or leadership.
3.Administrative or supervisory experience.
4.Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.
5.Working knowledge of student development in higher education and experience working with diverse populations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1.Normal office physical demands.
2.Ability to travel between campus locations and to community events.
3.Ability to travel in state and nationally.

1.Duties are performed indoors in the usual academic office environment.

If you would like to receive the ASR, FSR or MPP in booklet form, you may stop by the Campus Police Department located on Main Campus in G 1013 or call Campus Police at 815-280-2234. The website and booklet contain information regarding campus security and personal safety such as crime prevention and reporting, police law enforcement authority, disciplinary procedures and other related security policies. They also contain information about crime statistics for the three previous years for all JJC campuses, property owned and controlled by JJC District 525 and on public property immediately adjacent to JJC campuses.
This information is required by law and is made available by the Joliet Junior College Police Department.
