DescriptionDesign and Implementation of Services
  • All aspects of serviceimplementation, configuration, management, support and upgrades for servicesfor which the position serves as primary engineer

  • Assist in similar tasks for servicesin which the position serves as secondary/backup engineer

  • Ensure that service offerings arecapable, modern, reliable, and secure

  • Provide recommendations tomanagement to improve service offerings or improve efficiencies

  • Work with management to ensureappropriate metrics are being collected and to create meaningful trending andforecasting reports

  • Stay current with all technologiesand industry-related practices related to the services

  • Build and maintain scripts and otherautomation as appropriate and as assigned

 Operations and Support
  • Serving in an operational capacityas primary or secondary/backup engineer for assigned services, includingperforming standard service operations like patching, upgrades, and monitoring

  • Act as an escalation point for otherengineers as appropriate

  • Perform regular/recurring tasks asassigned, such as security/vulnerability monitoring and response

  • Process service requests inagreed-upon timeframes with a high quality of customer service

  • Assist other teams in OTS with needsrelated to assigned services

  • On-call and off-hour maintenance andmonitoring responsibilities as assigned

  • Other support duties as assigned bymanagement

 Communications and Documentation
  • Develop service standards,procedures, and maintenance procedures for services

  • Maintain complete and currentengineering-level documentation for assigned services, as well as assist inmaintaining documentation written at a level OTS support staff and other ITsupport would find useful

  • Cross-training as assigned
  • Peer collaboration – networkingwithin the education and corporate sector to see and understand how others aresolving problems and managing similar services

  • Communicate and document changes toservices following procedures

  • Communicate service outages rapidlyfollowing procedures

  • Provide mentorship and leadership toother engineers

  • Communicate with management aboutissues that will delay delivery dates, or which may affect the reliability,security, performance of the environment

  • Perform task- and time-tracking asrequired

 Project Leadership and Guidance
  • Serve in a technical lead role onprojects as assigned

  • Offer consulting services to projectmanagers throughout the department

  • Lead and coordinate smaller projectsand coordinated efforts as assigned

  • Assist or oversee the development ofrollout, implementation and other plans 



Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux server operating systems and technologies

  • Strong experience with physical server and storage management
  • Experience with hardware and systems design and systems administration tasks, server/application security, virtualization, server clustering technologies, performance and capacity management, system recovery and backups, and systems/hardware monitoring

  • Experience with administering enterprise backup infrastructure

  • Experience with scripting, programming and/or other automation

  • Demonstrated ability to lead small- to mid-sized projects
  • Familiarity with system/network security concepts and best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with management, colleagues, and stakeholders to understand requirements, make technical presentations, inform management of issues and make recommendations, and provide quality customer service

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks to assure they are delivered on-time, within budget, and meet customer and internal requirements

 Preferences
  • Experience with VMware

  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite and/or Microsoft SCCM

  • Experience with Ansible (or other system automation platforms like Puppet or Chef)

  • Experience with PowerShell

  • Experience with IaaS/PaaS environments like Microsoft Azure services and/or Amazon Web Services

  • Experience with Splunk or other SIEM products and integrations

  • Experience with Active Directory

  • Experience with managing platforms that support complex systems like ERP

  • Experience with databases, such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL

  • Technical certifications in related disciplines

 

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
