Job Description:


The college is in the process of seeking accreditation for this certificate. This individual will lead that process while coordinating the Medical Assistant Certificate program and assume teaching responsibilities as needed. Duties may be assigned during day, evening or weekend hours. There may also be a need for the Program Coordinator to work under a separate (part-time) contract during the summer to maintain fall enrollment numbers/registration and student success. This individual will report to the Dean of Health Sciences.


DUTIES:


  1. Plans, coordinates, and implements details of assigned projects such as accreditation, New Student Orientation, student retention activities, coordination of Advisory Board and scheduled faculty meetings.
  2. Attend an accreditation preparation workshop out of state in 2020, presented by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  3. Assists in the recruitment and orientation of new instructional staff.
  4. Assists the Registrar's office to schedule certificate classes/rooms each semester.
  5. Assists the Dean to implement program and course fees as needed.
  6. Collaborates with faculty to ensure the delivery of up-to-date curriculum.
  7. Instructs courses or portions thereof within the program as appropriate.
  8. Updates MA student handbook annually.
  9. Assists Admissions office as needed to coordinate a smooth application/admissions process.
  10. Coordinates priority registration and advising of current and potential students in the certificate program.
  11. Participates in the formulation of the program's budget and administer it within the prescribed limits established by the college.
  12. Assists in the implementation of the following evaluation process: classroom observation in a clinical or laboratory-like setting wherein the student is developing a variety of occupational skills fundamental to the students' performance after completion of designated programs.
  13. Performs annual inventory of supplies, ensure maintenance of equipment, perform various administrative tasks associated with assigned projects; answers questions relating to area of assignment; prepares and processes documentation; compiles or monitors data pertaining to project/activities; coordinates special events/activities; organizes, maintains, and manages records.
  14. Ensures completion of required departmental documentation within designated timeframes including but not limited to: general correspondence, reports, forms, graduation surveys, or annual reports, registration forms, manuals, catalogs, policies, procedures, or reference materials. Distributes documentation or retains records as appropriate.
  15. Interacts with various agencies/individuals (i.e. attends meetings; attends college-related events; communicates with department, students, alumni, faculty members, other school officials, the public, local businesses, outside agencies, vendors, and other individuals) to coordinate activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems and promote the medical assisting certificate.
  16. Coordinates all aspects of externship placements for Medical Assisting students, secures additional sites as needed and communicates with sites as needed.
  17. Schedules and directs meetings and professional development activities (i.e. maintains a working knowledge of assigned area; maintains current knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws/regulations; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions).
  18. Develops and implements course and program level assessment and evaluation to capture student learning outcomes required for accreditation.
  19. Collaborates with regional employers to ensure program alignment with workforce needs.
  20. Performs any related duty as directed.


Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or Health Career field; Minimum of three years full-time experience in a healthcare facility, with a minimum of one year of direct patient care, including 40 hours in an ambulatory care setting; Teaching experience in post-secondary or vocational/technical education; Current Medical Assistant registration or certification through a nationally recognized and accredited certifying agency (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCMA) or obtain certification prior to the site visit or within one year of hire, whichever comes first; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.


NOTES: A teaching demonstration will be part of the interview process.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in related field; Community college teaching experience; Experience with the use of Electronic Health Records and Billing/Coding procedures.


COMPENSATION: Minimum $41,621 - $50,000. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
